FAIRLINE TARGA 40: EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK
Fairline has given Motor Boat & Yachting an exclusive preview of its all-new Fairline Targa 40 prior to a public unveiling later this month.The images reveal a sleek hard top sportscruiser that shares a number of design features with both the smaller F//Line 33 and the all-new Fairline Phantom 65 as well as a few tricks of its own, including a drop-down terrace.As expected, the new Fairline Targa 40 is a bigger boat than the old Targa 38 in all areas. Its sheerline is around 200mm taller, freeing up headroom of around 6ft 6in (1.98m) throughout most of the lower deck.It’s longer too – up from 36ft 10in (11.22m) to 39ft 3in (11.96m). This translates to around 20% more internal volume than the Fairline Targa 38.Fairline’s in-house designer, Christian Gott, has done a fine job of creating that extra space while maintaining and updating the sporty looks that were such an integral part of the T38’s appeal.The new Targa 40’s snub-nosed bow bears an obvious family resemblance to the F//Line 33, while its window shapes echo those of the new Phantom 65 sportsbridge being launched at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival.While the new Fairline Targa 40 will initially only be available with a hard top, it features a huge canvas sunroof that retracts most of the way back to the radar arch to give the feeling of an open boat.A large single-pane windshield and extended side glazing further enhances the sensation of being connected to the water. That becomes even more pronounced at the stern where the fold-down quarter deck on the starboard side helps create a mini beach club.The T40’s asymmetric cockpit is another shared trait with the Phantom 65 and features aft seat backrests set at a slight angle that create a marginally longer sunbed to port than to starboard. These backrests also slide forward to extend both sunbeds at the expense of the aft seats.The cockpit is flatter than the old 38’s too. There are two steps up from the bathing platform through a central walkway but thereafter the cockpit sole is flat all the way forward to the helm station.There’s a generous three-sided dinette to port, which flares out on both sides in line with a fold-away table. A modular seat to starboard can be pulled up to join the table or repositioned to face out over the terrace. The wet bar is tucked behind the two helm seats.An L-shaped chaise longue to port allows one other person to sit up front facing forward or stretch out facing aft under the open sunroof. Another big sunpad on the foredeck provides more space to soak up rays but there’s also a bench and sunken footwell for a couple to enjoy a sundowner.The interior has some clever touches, too, that enhance perceived space. For instance, the bulkhead between the surprisingly large amidships lower saloon and the owner’s cabin in the bow is set at an angle of 9°, which makes for more space in the shared shower room to port and in the forward cabin’s hanging locker.The galley work surface also extends behind the shower stall, making a nook for things like kettles and coffee makers.The second cabin runs athwartships under the cockpit so is likely to have limited headroom over the beds but appears to have standing headroom and plenty of floor space along the port side. Beach clubs were once the preserve of the superyacht, but no more – with Fairline the first British yard to embrace this waterside design feature on its forthcoming Targa 58 GTB.Due to launch at the 2020 Cannes Yachting Festival, this 60ft Alberto-Mancini designed cruiser will be powered by a range of twin Volvo, MAN and Caterpillar engine options, with the biggest offering an estimated top speed of 36 knots.But the star of the show is the beach club itself – its fold-out ‘wings’ expand the bathing platform to provide an enviable entertaining platform, with a pull-out BBQ and room to store a Williams 345 jet tender alongside a Seadoo Spark. The Italian shipyard Azimut Yachts announced the launch of a larger model in the Azimut Grande lineup. The new flagship, the three-deck Azimut Grande Trideck, is currently under construction: the hull will be relocated to a facility in Avigliana near Turin in the coming days.At 37.6 metres overall with a 7.98-metre beam and rated at just under 300GT, the Azimut Grande Trideck will be much larger than the current flagship of the line - Azimut Grande 35 Metri. The world premiere of the yacht will take place in 2020, but Azimut Yachts has already signed contracts for three hulls, the fourth one is under negotiation with the future customer....

FAIRLINE YACHTS REVEALS LOCATION OF THE NEW PRODUCTION FACILITY
Fairline has taken possession of the 5-acre (20,000 sq metre) waterside location. Building work is expected to take around nine months to complete. Fairline is expecting to launch the new facility and begin boat building on the South Coast in the late summer of 2018.The new manufacturing facility will enable Fairline to build larger yachts, which has not been possible at the firm’s existing Oundle, Northamptonshire location. The boat yard’s manufacturing base in Oundle will continue to operate and will build boats up to 60ft. Boats over 60ft will be built at the new site in Hythe with testing, commissioning and customer handover also taking place there. Conveniently located in Southampton Water, the facility has large vessel deep water berths and over 200,000 sq feet (18,000 sq metres) of undercover manufacturing space. It is expected the new facility will initially create up to 200 jobs in the Southampton area.Russell Currie, Managing Director of Fairline Yachts, comments, “As the global yachting market evolves, clients from across the world are increasingly demanding larger yachts than we’ve been able to create. New imagery of the Fairline Targa 43 Open gives the clearest idea yet of how this new entry-level Targa will look when it hits the water in the spring.Penned by Alberto Mancini, the same man who drew the Targa 63 GTO, the 43 Open sports a rakish roofline with one-piece saloon windows and the new Fairline family hull windows that deliver such a striking side-on profile.Despite its name the 43 Open has a roof over the cockpit, though being a folding canvas affair the aperture once peeled back is generous and the lack of cockpit doors should make for a main deck that feels brilliantly open to the elements.Beneath the centrally mounted sunpad there is a tender garage large enough for a Williams Minijet with steps either side leading up to the cockpit and sidedecks.The central section of the cockpit is dominated by a generous dinette and wetbar with space forward for twin helm seats to starboard and a sheltered L-shaped seating pod to port that should prove a great spot for guests to congregate on passage.Below decks customers have the choice of Fairline’s familiar trim levels (Amalfi, Capri, Hamptons and St.Tropez) and the option to have the master cabin forward or amidships. ...
